Education in Virtue Program

At St. Mary Academy, we equip students to live in harmony with God, creation, oneself and others. Students are encouraged to be the “ANCHOR of God” through learning, living and witnessing the Gospel message ~ living as a Disciple of Christ. When you learn, live, and witness in virtue, it will overflow into every aspect of life—transforming you into the best version of yourself. This year, the virtues have been chosen to reflect the Fruits of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23, “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These fruits fall under the Cardinal Virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance.  Education in Virtue gives the St. Mary community a common vocabulary to learn, live, witness, practice and cultivate the habitual and firm disposition to do the good. Students learn to be the best versions of themselves. As we study the virtues and work to integrate them into our lives, we discover how virtue is more than “being nice.” We live virtuously!

Virtue Based Restorative Discipline

St. Mary Academy has implemented Virtue-Based Restorative Discipline, a spiritual approach to disciplining that cultivates virtue and provides a rich foundation for fostering faith both at home and at school. This program supports our mission, Guided by our Blessed Mother, Saint Mary Academy is a Catholic faith community that educates children in mind, body, and spirit. We strive to inspire our students to honor God, love learning, and serve others. VBD is designed to help students see their actions and behaviors through the lens of virtues: guided by the Blessed Mother, honoring God and serving others. We are committed to encouraging students to move from externally imposed discipline to self-discipline and responsibility.  By practicing virtues such as compassion, humility, gentleness, thankfulness, and kindness, we are preparing our students to honor God and serve others.
